Weeds Aren't All Bad

A girlfriend from Houston was going to come and hang with me this weekend -- just down time to catch up -- but cancelled. Unexpectedly I found myself with a totally free weekend. That's a precious thing for me this time of year; Habitat starts Saturday and then the next many of my Saturdays will be spoken for.

So what did I do yesterday? I put on some raggy jeans and grabbed a wooden bucket and sat myself in my front yard to hand pull weeds. For HOURS. It was bliss. The sun was out for the first time in a long time and I didn't have anywhere I needed to be. Digging in the dirt is so therapeutic!

While I was out, a neighbor taking her dog for a walked stopped by with her daughters. She said she knew I composted, and wondered if she could contribute? And then she asked if I garden, and how could they help? So great! I'm thrilled that my "organic-ness" is spilling over to my neighbors, and how fun will it be to have enthusiastic help in the garden? (Especially since I am pretty sure I will have plenty to do out there since I ordered seventeen packets of seed -- and that doesn't couny any of my herbs!) I wonder if she rototills...?
